Stomping Grounds Cafe Burgess sits quietly at 9 Chumleigh Street, right inside Burgess Park, making it an easy retreat for locals and visitors looking to pause mid-day or start the morning with a solid cup of coffee. This is very much a cafe where the quality of the coffee takes center stage—favorites include a rich cappuccino and a smooth caramel frappe that are often enjoyed alongside flaky blueberry or toasted ham & cheese croissants. The food offerings stay simple and approachable, which pairs well with the laid-back vibe here.

The atmosphere leans into cozy comfort without feeling cramped. There’s indoor seating shaded by warm lighting and quirky shelves stocked with everything from handmade bracelets to coasters and bags, reflecting the local community’s creative spirit. Outside, seating spills gently onto the park, making it a pleasant spot when the weather cooperates—especially for dog owners, since the cafe thoughtfully provides dog treats, along with a small but cheerful canine presence inside.

Staff here add to the inviting feel with friendly and helpful service that keeps things personable rather than rushed. While prices stay on the affordable side, some regulars have noted the loyalty card rewards could use some rethinking. Still, the cafe’s energy stands out compared to typical park cafes, which often feel a bit bland or overpriced.

Stomping Grounds draws a mixed crowd: locals passing through on their daily walks, creatives working away on laptops inside, families enjoying the park with kids in tow, and even visitors who find their way here thanks to nearby Airbnbs. The vibe is relaxed and a little eclectic, making it a good stop whether you want a quiet moment alone or a casual catch-up with friends. Weekday mornings and early afternoons tend to be the best times to take advantage of both the seating options and the peacefulness of the park backdrop.

I spent a week in London, and I’m pretty sure the best coffee I had on my entire trip was at Stomping Grounds Café. This place is downright otherworldly. I stumbled upon it because I was staying at a nearby Airbnb, and honestly, if I lived in the neighborhood I’d be there all the time. Stomping Grounds is my idea of the perfect coffee shop: shelves of charming trinkets, comfy seating, amazing coffee, pastries and snacks, a cozy vibe, and a little corner of local goodies for sale. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to curl up under a blanket with a book, spend the afternoon journaling, and lean all the way into your inner hygge energy. And in a way, you can *actually* do that here. It’s tucked right in the middle of a park, which just makes it all the more dreamy. I went twice during my London stay, and both times the baristas were lovely, friendly and welcoming.

Gorgeous, fun café in the middle of Burgess Park with the loveliest staff. They’ve got a great range of drinks and food (including pizzas), and the shop is really well stocked too. Such a chill atmosphere, and the cute resident doggies are the cherry on top!

Great spot. Staff are friendly, vibes are good. Usually park cafes are bland and overpriced. But this place brings a nice energy to Burgess. The food and decor are great, with a nice selection of canned beers.

Cute cafe with a nice vibe, however the loyalty card doesn’t make any sense. After paying for 9(!!) coffees, you only get £2 off (not even a free coffee). They should not have a loyalty card at that point.

Beautiful friendly staff and cafe, with children’s facilities just next door. Water fountains for the younger children to play just outside. Plenty room and tables outside. Chilled, welcoming vibe, cappuccino was creamy and smooth not bitter at all. They also have a loyalty card free 10th coffee. We pleasantly enjoyed our time here. Would recommend and return.

What a welcoming, gorgeous cafe. Absolutely charming and a pure dopamine hit for my eyes. Dog-friendly is an understatement; there are beautiful gifts and knick-knacks to buy alongside an impressive selection of pastries, cakes, paninis, etc. The best dirty chai I've had in London, along with a warm cinnamon bun. The service was so warm and welcoming; I had a lovely chat with the owner and the barista. It was lovely and quiet to work in too, and in such a beautiful setting in Burgess Park. You could see it was a real community hub, with lots of clubs and local info. I definitely will be returning for a mulled wine and have told all my friends about it. I have a friend who lives opposite the park, and he said he frequently visits and that it's a real neighborhood gem. Burgess Park is a great park, covering Camberwell and Peckham. Whether you are out for a walk, a jog, need a nice break, or love discovering an independent gem in London, come and give this a visit. I promise, like me, you will want to return. There is a seating area outside as well as inside, gluten-free options, and a fantastic selection of hot and cold drinks.
